A surgical extraction is the removal of a tooth that has not erupted through the gum line or has begun to and is still unreachable with standard instruments. This is a procedure that is done as oral surgery and may be done under stronger sedation and anesthetics. This particular treatment is more invasive and may require stitches in the gum tissues after removal. Patients who have extractions performed will want to closely follow their dentist’s instructions in regards to how to care for their smile afterward, as there may be aftercare recommendations that patients need to address.
