When patients tare interested in replacing an entire arch of teeth, they may believe that traditional dentures are their only solution. Thanks to continued advancements in dental treatments, patients now have alternative options to consider when replacing all the teeth in the upper and/or lower arch. Dr. Nancy Gill and her team at Golden Dental Solutions will encourage patients to ask about full arch implants.
What are full arch implants?
Full arch implants require two parts, including the placement of dental implants along the arch, and the creation of a denture that snaps into these implants. Also known as “all on 4” dental implants, these restorations allow for patients to avoid conventional dentures that have poor fit and function and consider an alternative that is much more stable and reliable. The dental implants placed along the dental arch are made to work with a false tooth appliance that uses the implants as stabilization. This ensures better functionality than dentures with denture adhesive that often fail at the most inopportune time!
How does a dentist plan for full arch implants?
First, patients need to be evaluated to determine if they could benefit from the placement of full arch implants. Most patients with sufficient bone can use these restorations to achieve the most desirable results. This is determined with the use of dental x-rays to monitor the patient’s overall oral health. Once patients decide to move forward with full arch implants, the dentist will plan for the oral surgery procedure. The placement of the dental implants is planned around the sinuses and other aspects of the smile that may be impacted by surgery. In addition, the dentist will also work with patients to help them design their denture that will use the implants as a proper foundation. The full arch implants and denture creation can take several weeks to complete, but the result is amazing and helps build confidence in our patients.
