Because Invisalign does not require that a person wear braces, they can continue eating their favorite foods, and they don’t have to worry about making drastic changes to their oral care routine. Still, patients have questions about Invisalign. One of them is how long this system will take to present them with the results they have been waiting for.
The Invisalign Process
The good news about Invisalign is that this treatment typically does not take any longer than traditional braces to obtain the desired outcome. In many cases, patients complete their course of treatment within one year. The mitigating factor in reaching the end-point as quickly as possible is aligner wear. The Invisalign treatment protocol calls for near-constant wear. Aligners can be taken out for meals and oral care. On occasion, it is also acceptable to leave aligners out for a short period, like for an important meeting or special event. Ultimately, though, it is expected that aligners will be in place for about 22 hours each day.
Wearing Invisalign for six months or twelve months or more is not a problem for most people. Because BPA-free aligners are nearly invisible, and patients get accustomed to the sensation of these trays over their teeth, the timeline of treatment is inconsequential. Being able to witness the progressive improvement of the smile is also an aspect of treatment that lends to its appeal.
